The Millionaire Next Door

Your Ah-ha! Moment

In an earlier blog post, we discussed how career experiences,
both successes and failures, can lead to moments of clarity
(Working
for those Ah-ha! Career Moments
, August 2012). This
post highlighted the fact that many successful millionaires
have a wide range of experiences that help them determine a
successful career path.
Of course, a life-changing experience may not be one that you
encountered while working. Continuing on the theme of ah-ha! moments, we invite
you to share an event or experience that changed your life in
a substantial way, and we will be donating to a noble cause
in exchange for your participation!

Between
now and April 30th, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, we will
be donating $1.00 to The Salvation Army for each complete
response we receive.
The questionnaire should take you approximately 10 minutes to
complete, and your responses will be confidential. After the
survey closes, we will update the blog with our final
donation amount. We hope you will share your story and help
this worthwhile cause at the same time.

  1. Life is full of Aha moments I find. One odd one, with regard to the theme, was realising that I had to be happy to go on keeping on. I came to call this my Focus on Flow to Hold the Gold Investment Strategy. The Flow part relates to Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi, who wrote the book FLOW, which is one of the foundations of what we today call positive psychology. What makes life worth living ? Well, I had to find out. I found out that holding assets got more and more difficult the more they rose in value. The temptation to get out was strong. Therefore I had to find a way to LIVE , while keeping my assets. This meant spending some money, something I hate doing, but I learned that I love hiking and bicycling and going places by train, and these activities, combined with art work, get me to transcendence, and lift me out of depression, so I can take some more of what it takes to keep working, and not sell. This has been a very good investment for me. The realisation comes again and again in diary notes over the years. Aha ! Being happy helps me on the road to the next million !! Far out man. Life is much more complex than Descartes ever dreamt. Happiness and wealth are not necessarily opposite ends of a stick. They can work together.

If you’re wondering why no one is filling out the survey, it’s because your link just redirects back to your main page.
